Pre and Post-Treatment Tips for At-Home Cavitation
Share

At-home ultrasound devices require a different safety mindset from treatments performed by a trained provider. A professional cavitation machine should not be used as a home device unless its labeling explicitly allows that use and the operator has the required training.
Educational note: Non-invasive body contouring is an aesthetic procedure with benefits, limitations, and possible complications. Follow the instructions for the exact device and the guidance of a qualified provider. This article is not individualized medical advice.
Before using any home device
1. Confirm that it is actually intended for home use
Read the product labeling, intended users, approved treatment areas, warnings, session limits, and required accessories. Do not copy settings or protocols from professional equipment, social media, or another brand.
2. Complete the manufacturer’s safety screening
Do not use ultrasound over open wounds, lesions, compromised skin, active implanted electronic devices, or metal under the skin in the proposed area. Review all other exclusions in the manual and ask a healthcare professional when your medical history makes suitability uncertain.
3. Inspect the device and treatment area
Check the cable, handpiece, power supply, controls, and coupling gel. Do not use damaged equipment. The skin should be clean and intact, without an active rash, infection, or unexplained irritation.
During a home session
1. Use only the specified coupling product
Complete skin contact is important for ultrasound. Use the gel and quantity described by the manufacturer. Do not substitute oils, lotions, or homemade mixtures unless the instructions explicitly permit them.
2. Stay within the labeled area, time, and frequency
More treatment is not necessarily better. Do not increase power, session length, frequency, or number of body areas beyond the instructions. Never hold an active handpiece stationary if the manual requires continuous movement.
3. Stop when something feels wrong
Stop immediately for unexpected pain, excessive heat, burning, blistering, sudden numbness, equipment malfunction, or skin damage. Disconnect the device and follow the manufacturer’s adverse-event instructions.
After a home session
1. Check the skin before applying anything else
Avoid another device, heat treatment, strong topical product, or massage over irritated skin. Use only the aftercare described in the manual.
2. Monitor rather than repeating early
Wait the full labeled interval before another session. If symptoms persist or worsen, do not treat the area again; contact the manufacturer, a qualified provider, or a healthcare professional as appropriate.
3. Keep expectations modest
Home-device performance and intended use vary widely. Do not assume a consumer product can reproduce a professional procedure or guarantee a particular measurement change.
Important distinction
The machine pictured above is professional equipment and is shown as an example of the technology category. It is not presented as an at-home device. Professional systems should be operated only by appropriately trained users following their manuals and applicable requirements.
